A LITTLE HISTORY…
It was once the most pleasant of the city. Its decline began in the Middle Ages, when wealthy residents moved to the west, to protect themselves from earthquakes. Then the fishermen and the poor settled there. In 1755, the buildings resisted the Lisbon earthquake.
Even though there is almost no Moorish home left, the district retains the atmosphere of Kasbah, with its narrow streets, stairs, laundry hanging from the windows.

Alfama Gourmet - Excellent Portuguese products are available in this shop: wines, liqueurs, cheeses, canned sardines, jams, olive oils, pastries ...
Feira da Ladra - This market takes place on Tuesdays and Saturdays, next to the Pan-Théon National. If you like to hunt, you have to go to the flea market in Lisbon. You will find many second-hand items, from rare vinyl records to vintage clothing, furniture and crockery.

The apartment is in a great location. The interior does look striking. There is everything you need for a fantastic short stay in Lisbon. However, there is a smell that emanates from the bathroom area. It wafts through the apartment and smells like dsee more

However, there is a smell that emanates from the bathroom area. It wafts through the apartment and smells like diluted sewerage. Further the bathroom could be better. The shower is pathetic. No TV, not that it bothered us however in today's modern age I think it's a necessity. The stairs to the mezzanine floor a quite steep. Only an issue for the old or infirm I'd say. Apart from those issues it is a lovely place.

The tour of the tower is not necessary, seeing it is pretty much all you need to do. You must make a short walk to Jeronimos Monastery from there. It’s amazing. Walk around Belem. 5) Pastel de nata is the most wonderful pastry. I’m obsessed. Go to Manteigaria. They use the perfect amount of cinnamon. The Pastel de Belem as well. 6) Have fun! We had a lovely time in Portugal and our stay here in Lisbon was the best way to wrap up our trip. We recommend trying Pasteis de Nata from Cantinho da Sé. They have Nutella and caramel options that are extra delicious. We had a great time riding the 28E tram around the city and stopping every few feet to gaze at beautiful tiles on so many buildings. We loved coming home to this beautiful and cosy apartment each day after exploring the city. We Definitely hope to come back again.

This apartment had the perfect atmosphere and the best location to walk to all the historical sites Alfama has to offer.

Highlights of our time here include:
-all of the delicious food. We highly recommend Prado just down the street at Rua da Prata 52 for amazing tapas

Highlights of our time here include: -all of the delicious food. We highly recommend Prado just down the street at Rua da Prata 52 for amazing tapas -a day trip to Sintra - we hiked to both Castelo dos Mouros and Pena palace and the walk was beautiful and a peaceful break from the busy city. -An early morning ride on tram 28 - although very touristy, it was a great way to see much of this city and quite cheap! -if you go to Belém(for pasteis de nata), be sure to stop it Azulejos Sant'Ana, abeautiful ceramics shop and adjacent factory with handmade titles. Had an amazing stay at this gorgeous location. Beautiful appartment!!
Great restaurants within walking distance including: Prado, Boa boa.
Enjoyed a sunset walk up to the castle de São Jorge. Remains open til late over summer, good way to avoid crosee more

Great restaurants within walking distance including: Prado, Boa boa. Enjoyed a sunset walk up to the castle de São Jorge. Remains open til late over summer, good way to avoid crowds and catch some spectacular views, would recommend electric scooter, “lime”“Bird”. To take all the way to Belem. Some rocky paths but mostly smooth all the way down the water’s edge. Also, if interested a very cute local creamics shop, does workshops for all skillsets, my boyfriend and I had never done ceramics before but gave it a go and had a great morning down at “caulino ceramics”(3 min walk)-great idea for a rainyovercast morning. Can’t wait to come back. |
